It Is Time

Shadow has told us, in no uncertain terms, that it is time.  It is us who are fighting for her to stay just a little while longer because we know that not having her here will leave such a huge hole in our lives.  Mitchell pointed out to me that we have had her for just about a quarter of our entire lives.

That is a long time and yet it seems just like yesterday that she came tripping down our driveway in Connecticut, ears flopping and little legs getting tangled up in her excitement to be running.  From that moment on our lives were filled with her love, sweetness, and mischievousness.  Now all of that energy and joy will be just a memory.  Already the pain of that is causing bouts of sobbing and holding onto her for just a bit longer.  She licks my face and lies back down sighing.  She knows that we will do right by her even if it is the most painful thing we have ever done.

Just a few more days and one small light will be extinguished but it is one that has lit up our lives with the brightest of lights.
